Book Review#10: Aangan by Khadeeja Mastoor

Usually I don’t read books in my native language and that is the worst thing as a child I used to read books that were granted from my school liberary and they were mostly English fantasy books and then I got too busy with my board exams that I didn’t get time to explore books in my native language. But I’m thankful to Parh_likh team that they started the campaign to promote Urdu literature and they were so kind to send me this book as my first PR book from them. I read and and I loved it so much that it made me feel more guilty for not reading this book before😒.

So the following is my review that I have written for this book

Aangan by Khadeeja Mastoor is one of the best novel in Urdu literature it’s set in the era of 1940’s when the act of partition was about to begin. This book is written from the perspective of Aaliya the leading protagonists. This is a heart touching book that encloses the story of a woman/lady/widow who awaited for her husband and her son, people who never crossed the border, story of lovers who’s love is never reciprocated back again and people/family who are never going to meet again. The story of blood shed and love in war era.
This books revolves around the greater side of women reflecting their innocence, love, simplicity, courage, yet rebellion side. The this book is over all a really good read with easy writing style even some words are difficult to understand but this book is worth it and beautiful story by Khadeeja Mastoor.
It’s a bit complicated at some places but I like it that way. This book is one of my most favourite book in my native language because it carries many emotions at a single time, I feel loved and betrayed the same time and sad and happy the same time as well. A novel packed with different stories but interlinked the same time, it’s my first that I have read a novel with this much intensity. A best read in 2019 till now.

This review is up on their website as well.

Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
